My Angel of Good Intentions

img040

Took a break from the couch yesterday. Awesome Guy was home and was vegging on the cushions! I've had this painting drawn up for a while and was happy to get to it. Lil draws hearts over people's heads to show she loves them. I thought it looked like a halo, a bent halo. How perfect is that? We are not impervious to making mistakes, but there are so many "angels" here on earth. Yeah, none of us are perfect, so our halos are a little bent, but we do things with a good heart and that is what's important. Something helpful to remember when you find moldy grapes in your daughter's bedroom! lol

She's on ebay! Click the photo to go to the listing if you like!

Good Movie Sunday

"The Two Mrs. Carrolls" with Humphrey Bogart

If you don't see this movie, you'll regret it. Maybe not today, maybe not tomorrow, but soon, and for the rest of your life!

This movie is SO suspenseful, the freakiest part about it is that you slowly watch Humphrey go insane. You can see his mind working...he was SUCH a great actor! I was so spooked by this movie...when it was over I went to take out the trash. I saw a man walking down the street and fearfully ran inside! I wasn't scared of the man...just the feelings left over from the movie!

I had art day with the girls last night, finished a cushion on the couch and made armatures for paperclay while the girls did play-doh and salt dough. Just taking that time to create last night has put me in such a great mood this morning! So go make something! :)

I'm so glad that I am re-doing the couch...it is looking brand new...I also sewed new batting over the old fabric to bring the cushions back to life. A great night was had by all even though I can't feel my fingertips from being pricked by pins so many times and from trying to poke holes in plastic with a knife before I wised up and decided to actually use a drill! lol

Awesome Guy is making me an herb garden with a grow light to go behind my kitchen sink as we speak. The girls and I are going to catch up on some Shirley Temple movies...have a great day all!

Um...title? :)

My Spider Lady has a new home! How cool is that? She is on her way there now in a very decorated package! My nephew put it in the receptacle at the post office and this one woman couldn't stop trying to look at it! lol
This is what I was up to over the weekend. I made a matching dress and top for Lillian and Madeline to wear in a sister portrait. Don't give me much credit for that...you get this fabric at Wal-Mart, it's presmocked...you measure, cut, and sew one seam. The other thing is that I am REupholstering our chair and couch...AGAIN! I swore I would never do that again...the first time was when Lillian was a baby and I did it at night while she slept. I spent most of that time upside down...upholstering is like being in a wrestling match. And all that piping! This time, I started during Madeline's nap and she woke up early. Try being in a wrestling match with a baby trying to crawl all over you, trying to run off with the pins, climbing the furniture to get to the new, higher place that you put the pins, and pulling the fabric you just placed off the couch while you are getting another piece. lol

It will be good though...the last wrestling match added 6 years of life to the set, and there is no point in buying a new one when it gets abused by so many young kids right now. I love the floral because it doesn't show stains as easily. You can see a bit of the roll of fabric (just $3 a yard!) behind the chair...same colors...just reversed. Wish me luck girls!

"Easy Living" 1937 This movie is SO funny! Try and catch it if you can...there is a food fight in here that had me laughing so hard I cried!

Happy Sunday y'all! :)

A very sweet, button loving, old swap partner friend of mine gave me two awards! Thank you Ginger! Please check out her blog...she puts lots of links on there to tutorials and fun things. Here is her blog, Loves to Dream!

I'm working on getting my paintings up today! Awesome Guy has the day off, but we are all feeling under the weather so just taking it easy.

I finally figured out what I'm going to do for my first ATC swap coming up. I'm so excited to do it and apply the theme in different mediums! I'm going to try to keep it a surprise until all is said and done, but it's hard...I want to tell you right now!

Oh, and a shout out to my sister...today is her birthday! Have a good one and let me know when I can give you your present!

Staying Up Late on Mommy Daughter Day

I have a first grader now! She's happy to see all her little friends again! Me? I miss her terribly! So does Madeline...she's always excited to go and pick Lil up after school. I did not pose her with the purse, she found it all on her own and it cracked me up!

Awesome Guy is out of town tonight and we took full advantage after Madeline went to sleep. Lillian stayed up with me while I finished 4 paintings! The cupcake girl is still drying, sorry for the glare. All but the mermaid will go on ebay this week. Lil cried when she heard I was going to sell her and through her tears asked for her for her birthday. How could I say no to that? I have a mermaid story about her too...with a video...another post for another day...we are about to pass out over here!

The tray to the high chair looks gross, but that's not food...it's paint! Madeline likes to paint too and I have a little watercolor set for her...she's always covered in paint by the end, but oh so fun!

Sweet dreams my bloggie friends!

Artist Feature & the Reason I Blog

This is my 50th post!!! Can you believe it?! I know that 100 posts is usually celebrated, but 50 at least deserves a mention! Or a video! lol

When I started this blog I thought I was crazy. I didn't think that I would stick with it, and I for sure thought no one would read it. I had no idea how many great women I would meet, how it would keep me creating, and how it kept me looking for all the positive things in life. I'll be the first to tell you that life is not all roses and cupcakes, but why focus on all that negative stuff? It happens, it's icky, but it will grow if we give it attention.

So onto what I REALLY want to tell you...the story of a wonderful lady that makes a difference in this world. She is the reason I started this blog. I've never talked about her before even though she's been on my blogroll this whole time. She is actually the first blog I ever read! I actually met her before she had one herself!

_____________________________________________

Once upon a time, a very troubled girl stumbled upon a store in a building that looked like a big yellow dollhouse. Inside the store were beautiful treasures. There were pillows, teapots, frames, sachets, but the most beautiful of all were the mosaic creations carefully made with vintage china. Desks, tables, cakestands, even grandfather clocks were all improved by the shopkeeper's handiwork.

Each piece was signed in a special way that honors the shopkeeper's grandmother. Her grandmother was the one who saw her potential and encouraged her to take the leap to be the true artist that she is. Each piece was sentimental and charming.

The shopkeeper was very friendly, sure, but there was something about her that just makes you want to tell her everything. She'll even tell you that herself. I'm not the type to go around telling my problems to strangers...far from it. This was different. She's an open spirit and the wisdom she shared enlightened me and gave me a whole new outlook on my issue. That she took the time to have that conversation with me was such a gift.

I frequented the store now and then and bought a few things. I even commissioned a piece to go in my bathroom. Our suite is decorated in our wedding colors (lilac and celadon) and I wanted something to match it. Over tea, in that same yellow dollhouse, she arrived with this:

I couldn't love this more...the butterfly even has a poem about happiness! She is truly talented!

At the time, she had a page on her website where she journaled about her life and what she was working on. I remember telling her how much I liked keeping up with her that way. When she went to an actual blog, I wrote her and she told me that I should start one too. So here I am! I haven't even told her yet...lol...I wanted to have some posts built up so she'd have something to look at!

I've kept up with her though...nowadays she's making lots of these:

She even made a fairyhouse! And an amazing butterfly with an important message. If you don't know by now, this shopkeeper, artist, mentor, new grandma, and friend of mine, is none other than the Mosaic Queen, Michelle Legler! She has a website, a blog, and an etsy shoppe. Go visit her, you'll thank me later for the eye candy!

Thank you, Michelle, for everything!

And thank you, dear visitor, for coming by today!

Works in Progress

Sorry for the flash thingies...I took this at night and I'm just not that good with the camera when Madeline is trying to climb on the table to play with the "dolls!" I also drew a girl singing while I watched Sarah Brightman on PBS. I love her and Celtic Woman...we saw them in concert. Such beautiful voices and gowns! The "Music Man" was REALLY good! Awesome Guy is such a sweetheart to sit through musicals with me...you know...he prefers the "shoot 'em up" action adventures. He's making me an herb garden with a grow light for the kitchen...I'm so excited! I just wanted to pop in and say hello! Have a great weekend girls!

The Music Man

Awesome Guy is taking me out for my birthday tonight to see "The Music Man!" My birthday is on the 3rd, but Lillian has a cheerleading recital that day. I am a lover of musicals...watched them since I was little little, but honestly, I have never seen this one! Imagine my surprise when I look it up on youtube and see that one of my all time favorite songs is in it!! I sing this to Madeline for a lullaby...saw it from some other movie in the 80's and loved it...looked up the lyrics when I had her. The girls have different sets of lullabies...I am sentimental that way, I guess. Anyone seen Music Man? The stage is in the center and the players will be coming in from all directions...it's a really great theater...small and every seat a great one. Have a great weekend all! :)
